What are we doing with our time?
So often we find ourselves wrapped up in things that have no earthly importance to us and in that, we become drained and agitated at those we should be kind and gracious to. Facebook is one of the most addictive media sites that we have encountered and with its addictive nature comes our addictive need to want to know everything about everyone else, whether good or bad. Mothers have neglected their children from excessive usage of FB, fathers have neglected being the head of the household over FB, and children have neglected their own childhood over the excessive usage of FB. Facebook can be used for good, but how often do you think that it has been used for evil? You reading this know exactly what I am talking about because every single user has been through some kind of distorted ordeal with someone in his/her FB lifetime. So what could we be doing with our time? Below are a couple of ideas for you and I to consider:
1. Read your Bible.
Reading your Bible takes time, prayer, and thought. The Bible is filled with wonderful stories, some sad and some joyous. Read your Bible with your family and grow together in Christ as one.
2. Pray constantly.
Daniel was a man of prayer. He prayed 3 times a day and always faced the east as he did. I'm not going to tell you that God understands your schedule because after what He has done for us, there's no excuse for not giving Him your time, extra or not.
3. Family time.
Take your family out for some quality time. Several activities include outside work and play, a trip to the park, vacation, etc. Time with your family is precious especially with your growing children.
4. Volunteer.
There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer in and around your area. Donate your clothing, visit the elders in your church, volunteer at an animal shelter, help your grandparents garden, etc. Be a cheerful helper.
5. Less technology.
Some people are obsessed with their phones and would have a mental breakdown if their phone went missing, but in order to achieve a better sense of self and a more selfless approach to others, your phone and laptop are not necessary. Imagine a world without our phones and computers: more outside children, more attentive parents, less hatefulness towards others, and more attention on others and not on self.
How do you plan on spending your time? Those extra strolls through newsfeed could have been spent playing with your children, talking to your spouse, rolling around with your pet, getting things done around the house, and even spending more time with the Lord. Choose your time wisely and make every moment count.
